Deals primarily with abuse and neglect cases. They go into homes and facilities to investigate and provide care. They work in the least restrictive way to determine competency while protecting the rights of individuals.

Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center (667-9036) 38 Court St.
An 80 bed facility that is dual certified. It provides skilled rehabilitation services, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. They specialize in many illnesses including care for patients with Alzhemiers and dementia. It provides long term care as well as a skilled unit for rehabilitation services.

This facility is a branch of CHCS and offers psychiatric counseling, inpatient in home services for acute care.

Downeast Horizons Inc. (667-2400)
This is an umbrella corporation which serves the adult population, providing skill development and counseling, and group homes for individuals who are mentally retarded or developmentally disabled. They also provide respite services for families and caretakers of adults who are MR or DD. They are open 9-5 five, days a week.

This facility provides geriatric mental health services.

Ellsworth Alzheimers Club (667-9036)
This offers a support group at Courtland.

Ellsworth Police Department (667-2525)
The police department offers a service which keeps names of community members afflicted with Alzheimers disease or dementia on file at the police station. It enables police officers to locate family members should a patient be found.

This is a senior citizens club held at the Union River Estates.

This is a 4 bed Level I facility that serves patients with M.I. and M.R.

Ellsworth Home (667-2444)
This is a Level II assisted living facility which has 7 beds available and serves patients with Mental retardation.

Ellsworth Respite Center at Meadowview (667-5449)
This is a day care program which provides respite for families and caregivers of those with Alzheimers and Dementia. They are open Tuesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. They provide exercise, crafts, social interaction and other activities as well as lunch and a snack.

Hospice of Hancock County (667-2513)

Health Link Wellness Center at Mill Mall (667-247) State St.
www.mainehospital.com Health Link is a division of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. It is a wellness center dedicated to health promotion. It is offered five days a week from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. They offer blood pressure checks every Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. They sponsor immunization clinics, support groups, health education programs, health promotion programs and a recreation center. Some programs that are offered include the following:

Mens Cancer Support group which is held the second Monday of the month from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Wellness Center. Weight Watchers every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the Wellness Center. P.A.T.C.H. walks every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Rides are available from the Health Link Center at 9:15.

Fresh start program is a smoking cessation program held on January 5, 12, 18, 26th from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. ADDvance is a support group for Attention Deficit Disorder. Groups for adults and their partners is held the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:30. The parents and Educators group is held the third Friday of each month from 6:30-8:30.

This is a Level I assisted living facility which has one bed available and serves patients with MI and MR.

Lakewood Adult Family Care Home (667-4301)
This is a Level I assisted living facility which has six beds available and serves elderly and disabled as well as patients suffering from dementia and Alzheimers disease.

Lifeline (667-5311) 50 Union St.
This is an eldercare service that provides a button worn by the individual 24 hours a day (even in the shower or bath) which when activated alerts the lifeline center that you need assistance. The center calls friends, family or neighbors to check on you. If they can not be reached, emergency personnel are dispatched to your home. This service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This is a subsidized housing facility for the elderly and also is a site for Meals for Me.

The participating dentist in the Ellsworth area is Peter Dodson. There are eligibility requirements that will be assessed upon first visitation and before services are rendered.

This is a subsidized housing facility which provides housing for elderly and disabled persons.

Provided through the U.M. Cooperative Extension Service

MDI & Ellsworth Housing Authorities Union River Estates (667-9705)
This is a subsidized housing facility which provides housing for elderly and disabled persons. Residents have access to homemaker, personal care assistance, transportation and a meal program. These services are provided by the housing authority and are made available to residents at a low cost. This is beneficial to some elderly persons who are remaining independent in their own homes by offering them this type of assistance.
