MCMH has been downeast Maine’s largest health care facility for 45 years.
MCMH is a 64 bed adult care facility which offers services that include
emergency medicine, gastroenterology, internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology,
orthopedics, pediatrics, podiatry, radiology, surgery and urology. The
hospital runs a wellness clinic, a swing bed unit, a pulmonary rehabilitation
clinic, an oncology unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech
and language therapy, dietary counseling and a breast clinic. Area affiliated
physicians provide care outside of the facility. MCMH has a 6 bed ICU for
pediatric and adult patients including cardiac patients that require 24
hour care. They provide an 8 bed obstetric unit with a nursery and a 50
bed medical surgical floor for surgery, trauma and cardiac patients as
well as acute and chronic illness patients. Diagnostic services include
nuclear medicine, CAT scan services and MRI services.
Health Care Express (667-0156) 50 Union St.
This facility offers services for immediate health care needs in association
with 24 hour walk in emergency room. Operates like a clinic and accepts
all major credit cards, insurance carriers as well as medicare and medicaid.
Ellsworth Internal Medicine (667-9991) 50 Union St.
The Doctors on staff include Charles B. Alexander, Peter J. Ossanna,
Richard LaRocco, Laurie Yntema, Kathryn Rosenbrink, Patricia Wyshak and
PA Sherrie Downing. This facility provides medical care and preventative
services such as annual physical exams, PAP smears, school physicals (age
13 and up). They also care for patients with HIV, diabetes and heart problems.
Diagnostic procedures include the treadmill testing, sigmoidoscopies, biopsies,
skin excisions and they provide health education.
Swing Bed Unit (667-5311) 50 Union St.
The swing bed unit consists of patients who no longer need acute care
but are not ready to go home. The swing bed team includes a doctor, nurse,
social worker, dietician, physical therapist, pharmacist, occupational
therapist, RT, activities director, a discharge planner and a home health
nurse. The goals are created and the team works to transition the patient
from the hospital home. In order to qualify for the swing bed program you
must have spent at least three days in the acute care setting and you must
need monitoring and rehabilitation. There are no age restrictions. This
service may be covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers.
Breast Clinic (667-5311) 50 Union St.
This facility provides the services of a registered nurse who performs
breast exams. These nurses are also responsible for obtaining a history
of patients and assessing risk factors and answering any questions that
may be asked. They make referrals when necessary. There is an on site radiologist
who provides interpretation of the mammograms. The office hours are Monday
through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Ellsworth Internal Medicine (667-9991) 50 Union St.
Area women are eligible if they meet income guidelines, are 50 or older
and have little or no insurance. If guidelines are met the client is eligible
for mammograms, breast exams, self exam education, PAP tests and pelvic
exams.
Mary Dow Cancer Center (667-6865) 50 Union St.
This facility provides care and treatment in cooperation with Eastern
Maine Medical Center. Two staff oncologists, Dr. Philip Brooks and Dr.
Eric Hartz are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Mary Jude acts as a nutritionist and Linda Marin as a social worker and
both are also on staff. They provide counseling services and serve as referral
people for home health transportation, hospice, and Meals for Me. They
also can provide referrals to the pain management clinic as needed. This
facility also provides information and education as well as consultation
for nutrition and dietary maintenance.
Frenchman Bay Orthopedics (667-7561) 50 Union St.
Dr. Paul Denoncourt, Dr. Thomas Crowe, Dr. Craig Williams and Dr.
Louis Jenis are on staff at this facility. They provide a wide range of
orthopedic services including hip and knee replacement and spinal care.
Ellsworth Free Clinic (667-7953) Bayview Ave.
This facility is run by a retired physician, Dr. Hayes, who recruits
volunteers to see patients on a sliding fee scale. Clientele are obtained
from social service agencies referrals.
