Tuberculosis Clinic

Service: Communicable disease control and prevention. P.H.N. is the main service for the state of Maine. Anyone who has tested positive for tuberculosis or is at risk for tuberculosis is referred to the P.H.N. for testing, treatment, prophylactic treatment and education for this very serious health problem. The goal is to prevent exacerbation and transmission through proper treatment and follow-up. This is a free service for anyone in need.

Naturopathic Medicine Arthur Manning (667-8743) 52 B Main St.
Naturopathic healers use natural remedies to help with healing. Dr. Manning works with patients experiencing pain related to back problems, sports injuries and migraine headaches. He uses alternative osteopathy and herbal counseling. He accepts private insurance only, no medicare or medicaid.

They offer custom and stock devices. They will do evaluation and fitting, fabrication and service. They will do nursing homes and home visits. They accept Medicare and Medicaid, VA Ins. and Worker’s Compensation programs.

Financing Health Care
The supplemental coverage includes all drugs not covered in basic participants pay Medicaid rate with the state paying $2.00.

Medicare Part A
Covers everyone who receives Social Security and includes health and wellness checkups, hospitalizations, chronic and acute illnesses, but no prescriptions.

Medicare Part B
Optional can pay small monthly fee which is deducted from Social Security and covers services not covered by Part A however, there is still no prescription drug coverage.

Medicaid
Medicaid is state funded program which provides assistance for eligible low income families which may also include individuals who are blind or deaf (of any age), children in foster care or elderly.

Healthworks is one program that holds a contract with Medicaid. This program finds medicaid providers for people under age 21. They educate members on benefits of maintaining well checkups, help with scheduling appointments, transportation and much more.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
Women, infants and children is a special supplemental and nutritional program which provides vouchers to buy healthy foods, nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support and referral services. To be eligible for WIC you must meet income and nutritional guidelines. Women who breastfeed and who are eligible for WIC are eligible up to one year after delivery. Non breast feeding women and who are eligible for WIC are eligible up to six months after delivery. Infants and children whose families are eligible for WIC are eligible up to age five.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Provides group and individual plans. Health choice offers low rates but high deductibles. Health choice standard offers low deductibles a 20% co pay and high rates. Health choice basic provides low deductibles, a 40% co pay and lower rates than the standard.

This organization works as a support program for patients suffering from cancer. Many different programs are available from this organization such as wig purchases, transportation as well as educational resources.

This organization will provide information packets concerning diabetes education, nutrition needs, circulation benefits as well as general information.

This organization provides information on the risks and outcomes of drunk driving as well as provides public service announcements to increase public awareness. They provide the victims of drunk driving with information in the forms of brochures and counseling. They also reach out to communities through educating young teens and adults through school programs.

This organization provides information regarding scheduled meetings as well as providing referrals to area hospitals for rehabilitation.

Youth Crisis Stabilization Program (1-800-499-9130)
This organization provides emergency psychiatric services to parents and children over the phone. The answering service answers and asks for name, number and location as well as age and name of child in crisis then they contact a professional.
