Services offered in our District office:

The Hancock County Soil & Water Conservation District offers many services to the public. In addition to technical assistance for erosion control and water quality projects we have a number of services available in our Ellsworth office. Some of the in-office services offered are:

  • Color aerial photos (appointment needed for this service)

  • Dissolved oxygen meters to lend out to trained volunteers

  • Medium intensity soil surveys and soil maps for soil scientists, site evaluators, and landowners

  • Technical assistance for soil erosion prevention and abatement
  • Technical assistance for forming road associations and gravel road maintenance

  • Water testing information

  • Soil test kits for farmers and gardeners

  • Forestry information including regulations, lists of foresters, and timber sales agreements

  • Bulb, tree, and shrub sales for conservation plantings, trout sales for stocking private ponds, composters, and rain barrels for water conservation

  • Technical assistance for gardeners

  • Technical assistance for farmers and agricultural concerns
  • Technical assistance for pond construction and maintenance
  • Pamphlets on general conservation, including plants, pesticides, erosion, education, pollution and wildlife
