General Poster Contest Info:

Who Can Participate?
The Poster contest is open to all students in grades K-12. Students in public, private or home school.


Why Participate?
Designing a poster and researching the theme, can give you a voice in your community on important conservation issues. Good posters tell important stories to present and future generations. Posters capture people’s attention with a powerful graphic and inspire with a message to your community .

Information Resources:
You will want to learn all you can about the importance of water in your daily life. You can find resources at your school or public library, science books, local newspapers, nature centers and from the NACD website www.nacdnet.org Stewardship & Education section.
Topics you may want to research are: Water in your ever day life, water cycle, groundwater, sources of drinking water, amount of water on Earth, watersheds, stormwater runoff, drought, flooding, water used to grow food you use each day while remembering the theme of “Water is Life”. NACD Stewardship has been celebrated every year since 1955. To learn more about NACD Stewardship visit the website above.!

Rules
Any media may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect (paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, paper or other materials).

Poster size must be between 8.5" x 11" and 22" x 28".

A completed entry form must be attached to the back of the poster.

Posters should be packaged so they remain flat when sent for judging.

Entries are due by February 1, 2008

All posters must be created by an individual student rather than a team of students.

One poster per student

Must be the original artwork of the student

Use 2008 Stewardship Theme “Water Is Life” on your poster.


Poster Evaluations
The posters are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Conservation message (50 percent)
  • Visual effectiveness (30 percent)
  • Originality (10 percent) and
  • Universal appeal (10 percent)

Prizes
School winners are chosen from each school in the five grade Divisions. All school winners are awarded a certificate. Then School Winners are judged for first and second place District winners for each Division. First and second place District winners receive a prize. The First Place District winning poster for each division is eligible for entrance into the MACD State Poster Contest. State winners will be eligible for the NACD National Poster Contest and prizes.
