The Choir of St. Saviour's is well over 100 years old and currently
numbers twenty adult men and women. The average assemblage for Sunday
services is fifteen to eighteen. Every Sunday, from September through
June, the Choir leads the singing of hymns and service music from the
1982 Hymnal and presents an appropriate anthem. In addition, the Choir
prepares music for many special services that occur during the Church
year, such as choral evensongs, lessons and carols, and combined choirs
for ecumenical services. Periodically, the Choir helps introduce and
teach a new hymn or canticle to the congregation.
This group with some long-time members, some instrumentalists and some
trained voices, has great music reading ability. Able to sing the
standard four parts (S.A.T.B.), further division is possible when
needed. It also has a vast library of music ranging from Renaissance to contemporary which is constantly expanding. This resource makes it
possible to schedule anthems without frequent repetition, but includes
many classics and old favorites that can be called up and used with
minimal preparation. The Choir meets the task of learning new music
with a thirst for challenge and a sense of pride when presenting it for
the first time and getting positive feedback from the congregation.
Under the strong leadership of a succession of masterful
Organist/Choirmasters, this choir has gained a regional recognition and
respect for its ability. The continuation of high standards and further growth is imperative for the health of this Choir and St. Saviour's.
